About Me
My name is Barbara Balazs, I am a certified counsellor. My aim is to explore together with the clients what kind of issues they are facing. Then, we are working on finding the healthiest coping mechanism to deal with those challenges. You might feel stuck, or feeling like your head is full of thoughts and worries and there is just no stopping them. Therapy can help with all of these issues.
During the sessions, my aim is to support you to gain a clearer understanding of your thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Many times we get triggered by events/people/behaviours that seem to be random, and therefore it is more difficult to cope with them. My aim is to help you make more sense of those and find the best ways to handle them.
I work by using the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) approach, combined with person centred elements and mindfulness. The sessions will always be personalised, based on the needs of the clients.

I believe it is important to talk about emotions and thoughts, even when it's difficult. Holding feelings inside can lead to psychosomatic issues, impacting both our mental and physical well-being. Communication allows us to process and fosters healthier relationships.

What to Expect

I offer a free 15-minute long phone conversation to help us determine if we're the right fit to work together. During this time, you can ask any questions about counselling and what to expect from the sessions. It’s also an opportunity for me to learn more about you and understand what you're looking for.

After our phone conversation, you can decide whether you'd like to proceed with scheduling our first session, or take some time to reflect on the experience.

If we decide to move forward, I will send you a Therapeutic Contract to complete.

Once the contract is completed and everything is in place, the sessions will be confirmed, and we will have our first session, either in person, online, or via phone.

FAQ
What is counselling?
Counselling is a form of talking therapy where a qualified therapist listens to you and supports you to find ways to deal with mental health issues. It is a collaborative process, focusing on your problems, feelings, thoughts and behaviours.

What is CBT?
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on understanding and modifying dysfunctional emotions, behaviours, and thoughts. It is doing so by looking at the roots of the negative thoughts and irrational beliefs. It is present focused and solution oriented.
Who can benefit from counselling?
Counselling can be beneficial to anyone experiencing emotional difficulties, stress, relationship issues, mental health concerns (like anxiety, depression), or who needs support in life transitions (grief, trauma, etc.).
Are the sessions confidential?
Yes, counselling sessions are confidential. However, there are exceptions if the counsellor believes you or someone else is at risk of harm or if legal obligations arise (e.g., court orders).
How long does counselling last?
Sessions last 50 minutes. The number of sessions vary depending on individual needs, ranging from a few sessions to longer-term therapy.

Do I need to commit to a certain number of sessions?
No, you do not have to commit to a specific number of sessions. You are welcome to attend sessions as needed. However, I recommend having a final session if you decide to stop working together, as it can help bring closure to your therapeutic journey. It's important to find a therapist who is the right fit for you, and I'm here to support you in that process.

Are the sessions always at the same time and day every week (or biweekly)?
Yes, sessions are typically scheduled at the same time and day each week (or biweekly), providing consistency and structure to your therapeutic journey. Having a regular schedule can help you build momentum and create a sense of stability, making it easier to stay engaged and make progress. It also allows us to establish a strong working relationship, which is key to effective therapy. However, we can always adjust the schedule if needed to accommodate any changes in your life (e.g. going on holiday).
Are online and phone therapy effective?
Studies show that online and phone-based counselling can be as effective as face-to-face therapy
